The Operational and Management function has been identified to be one of the essential team activities within an organization. In fact, in many organizations today, the entire team becomes involved in the process of defining the role and working its way towards achieving the desired objectives. When we are referring to the operational functions, we are actually talking about the operations within an organization. At the same time, the activities that lie outside the purview of the business activities constitute what we call the management functions. But what is the role of these two functional areas in an organization?

The Lean Manufacturing Method that Will Help to Get into Environmental Sustainability

In reality, the two functions play an indispensable role in shaping the future of the enterprise. The operational department in any company is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day tasks related to the production and delivery of the products offered to the customers. On the other hand, the management function seeks to optimize the flow of resources and increase the enterprise’s profitability by identifying the bottlenecks that impede business progress. And this is what most of the true and successful entrepreneurs are all talking about.

Both the functional areas of an organization need to work for hand in order to realize the goals set by the CEO and the team members. The fundamental difference between them lies in the type of activities they supervise or what they learn through the learning blocks. The operational department seeks to gather customer information, collect sales figures, check customer satisfaction levels, etc. Whereas the management function emphasizes improving the firm’s overall effectiveness through its strategic plans and planning mechanism.

Such activities make it possible to meet the objectives of the firm. And this, in turn, ensures the smooth operation of the entire enterprise. For example, if the company aims to generate enough profit to pay the workers’ wages, then it would be pointless to hire people to play tennis for you. So the operation can be conducted through other means. It’s like hiring a masseur for a costly but essential massage.

What’s on-demand manufacturing? How does on-demand manufacturing work?

But if you set up a tennis center, you wouldn’t employ people to play tennis for you. Instead, you would offer them tennis lessons and teach them how to generate revenue from various clients who are willing to pay for their services. In such a system, there is no room for inefficiency as there are no goals to achieve. The systems cannot fail. The process cannot stop either.

So, what do you think should happen in such a system? The answer is simple. It should generate profits and increase the value of the firm. And only then will the organizational leaders be happy with themselves!

Learning blocks must be applied at every stage of the process. These learning blocks can be presented to the team leaders who are responsible for the implementation. The team leaders can then choose whether they want to accept or reject them. They can also select their employees who will be allowed to implement them.

Once implemented, these learning blocks must remain effective in order to maximize the revenue that can be generated from the business. Otherwise, the company will not be sustainable. Therefore, the management needs to focus on developing the maximum value from the business while minimizing functional waste and inefficiency. The Operational and Management function will always play an essential role because it keeps the business running. Thus, the firm must have a firm understanding of this functional relationship.
